This is just to say THANK YOU so much for all your support in helping us to complete our Gold DofE Award.  We began in 2015 and received our award in December 2017.  We are all at university now and still remember the experience when we all learnt a considerable amount from starting with minimal map reading knowledge.  We are very grateful for all your hard work.  Caitlin, Lydia, Joy, Charlotte and Preet  2018

I have just come back from a couple of weeks in the Lake District. We were staying on Derwent Water although we walked all over the place. Passing through Wasdale especially brought back a lot of memories of Haribo packets, Trangia-cooking and group singing. I am very proud to have achieved my Gold DofE and grateful to you both for helping me through it.   Edmund  2017

Thank you so much for all the time you have given up over the last few months and your commitment to helping me achieve my Gold award.  I am so grateful to have been given such an amazing opportunity by Tonbridge Gold.  It has honestly been one of the best experiences of my life and I cannot thank you enough for it.   Jo  2017

Thank you so much for everything you have done to make it possible for us to complete our Gold expedition.  We really appreciate that all the effort you put in is voluntary.  We could not have done it without you.  Becca   2016

DofE has been so much fun.  I am now motivated to finish all the sections, thanks to you.  Josh  2016

Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity with everything, not just the expeditions but also all the training and organising.  I hope you get as much enjoyment out of it as we did.  Alice  2016

Taking part in Gold DofE has been a brilliant personal experience and has strengthened my organisation and teamwork skills. This is mainly because I took up the role as team leader.  Three of us from Weald completed our Gold training and both of our expeditions in the same year, due to thorough planning. We passed our practice expedition in the Lake District at the end of July and then 3 weeks later we did our qualifying expedition in the Peak District.

The expedition section is the most daunting, as it requires the most time and commitment.   It is also physically demanding, as you may remember from Bronze or Silver.  However, the sense of achievement my team experienced in August, having completed our qualifying expedition in the Peak District definitely outweighed any difficulties we had along the way.  My qualifying group was made up of girls from different ages and schools and so it doesn't matter if you sign up on your own. We had 3 girls from Weald, 2 from Toggs and also an ex-Weald girl who is now at university.  Working with new people has definitely been a highlight of my experience and I still keep in contact with them.

For my residential, I spent the week on a theatre course in London.  I actually did my residential between by two expeditions so it was quite a busy month of the summer holidays.  On my residential we worked towards a show for the end the week, eventually performing it on the stage home to Phantom of the Opera. The residential section can often be a worry due to its potential cost.  However, the DofE website has lots of ideas for voluntary residential.  For example there is a charity called CHICKS who run holidays for disadvantaged children in the UK.  I will hopefully be volunteering with the charity next year when I am 18.

For my volunteering section I am a young leader at a Cubs group. Throughout my year of volunteering for Gold I have taken part in leadership training to enhance this role. I plan craft activities and games for the group on a regular basis.

Finally, I would recommend the award to any of you, as long as you have the motivation to give it your very best.  Emily 2013

" I'm just writing to say thank you to every member of your team who helped out on the Gold Duke of Edinburgh practice expedition in the Lake District. I appreciate how kind and generous you all are in giving up your leave and spare time to help us achieve our Gold awards. It was organised so well, and speaking on behalf of my team I can safely say that we found it a thoroughly rewarding experience ... now for the real thing!"    Will  2011
